Just finished a trip to Wynn this weekend and took some photos of the new room renovations… Would love to share them.
Instantly, my company that evening was worthless.
Right under our noses, Todd-Avery Lenahan has been displaying his talent as the new head of Wynn Design and Development in a video running at the Wynn Home Store. Here are screenshots, literally, of that video.
Lots to absorb here. First, it’s more than just finishes and furnishings; serious demolition work will be happening, especially in the bathrooms. Scrapping the cream marble for deep mahogany finishes on the front of the sinks sets a more masculine tone for the bathroom—so masculine in fact that they did away with the central vanity altogether.
In the guest rooms, the individual seats at the foot of the bed give a heightened sense of separation between living and sleeping spaces. Four-poster beds seem over-indulgent for a 2700-room resort; I bet they’re saving that feature exclusively for Tower Suites. Regardless, I don’t like them because I foresee getting drunk enough to accidentally straddle a post. I love the Salon suite, but will sorely miss the current design (also found in the Parlor and ghetto/bookable Fairway Villas); it’s not dated, it lacks nothing, and it still feels infinitely luxurious.
Overall, the new rooms seem equal parts chinoiserie and retro. Furnishings with exposed frames suggest minimalism in a space that’s anything but minimalist. There’s maybe even a touch of Achaemenid-inspired art. I love it in the standard guest rooms, but in pictures alone, I’m not so sure they’re a significant improvement over the current suite designs. They’ve dialed back on this screaming hot Encore Macau suite and I kinda’ wish they hadn’t.

It looks like they’re selling the effin’ furniture already in semi-mocked up rooms! Notice that there’s framed photos of the new accommodations hanging on the walls. That’s some interior design inception shit.
So what do you guys think? Is Lenahan living up to the Thomas legacy?

I sincerely hope there’s a separate vanity area planned. Am I supposed to put on a full face while standing, like I’m 15 and using the testers at the mall before the Clinique lady shoos me away?
I will miss the beige on beige of the current rooms, but I rather like the minimalist chinoiserie thing. Just…y’all, I need a place to sit and do my hair and makeup. Please. This isn’t the Park MGM.

I agree. This looks like Park MGM. Really hope they re-tool this a little. I’m a fan of Todd-Avery Lenahan but his team should take more inspiration from Wynn Macau which incorporates both chinoiserie & the signature wynn elegance.

I do not like this style at all. I feel the rooms currently have a timeless and elegant feel. I enjoy having a place to sit and put on makeup. It would be a let down to walk into this , remembering the excellence of the current rooms. I would have to try out new hotels in Vegas.

I don’t like this at all. Where am I supposed to lay out everything I use on the vanity?? Clearly, a man’s design. The furniture/artwork/rug is all too busy. It just clashes. I found the current rooms to be too light …but calming. This would give me a headache staying in there.

New room certainly looks more rich in feel than current rooms because of different colors used and finishes but i still think the current rooms looks much better than this , They can easily last next 5 years without feeling dated. This style of decor will suit more suites rather than standard rooms

I’ve got to post a vehement disagreement to the detractors and design critics in this forum. This new room is more rich & elegant than the dated “Golden Girls” room of the current hotel. Don’t forget that Lanhan designed the Macau rooms you’re complimenting but there is absolutely not a single Chinese element in any of the new Wynn room pics. Lanhan also designed the Encore Spa and the Encore tower & villas and has arguably created much of the “Wynn elegance” in each of its properties and Thomas himself has said so. He’s been a fan of the not so new guy ever since they started working on the original Wynn together in 2003. As for those of you talking about about make-up application, my wife & sister read the comments hear and asked “who sits down to do their makeup unless they’re 70 yrs old”? Seems that apparently lots of women prefer to stand at a mirror and get as close as they can to it, and as a guy I do the same while shaving so I like that new wall mirror and outlet. Also, how can you not have noticed in the pics the 5 huge shelves and trays at the vanity that have way more space than just the single flat counter? Wynn never had towel bars before and the shelf tower with all the towel bars and accessory space is very smart. Wynn has 5 stars for a reason so these details take a dinosaur of a bathroom into the future very elegantly and functionally IMO as a very well traveled person who stays in the best of the best hotels everywhere. As for the art critics on here, what was there ever to like about all those Warhol & Matisse retail posters everywhere in the old Wynn tower that you can buy at Deck the Walls or art.com for $15? Don’t forget that the old Wynn rooms also forced you to store your shirts, socks, and undies with the snacks and beer inside the mini-bar dresser 35 feet from the closet…how much do you miss that bizarre paring? Clearly the Stevester never stayed in his own Wynn rooms because he’d never have found his way to his clothes from the bathroom without one of his seeing-eye dogs.
Finally, for Marie that says she “misses Steve Wynn”, do you suppose the hundreds of women employees that were abused, assaulted, raped, threatened and paid-off to be silenced by him miss him as much as you do? Wow Marie, wow!

Not sure how well traveled you really are if you think these rooms are an upgrade. Not a single hotel compared to Wynn prior to this basic look. No one could compete- we are staying at Wynn and that’s that. But now? They’ve lost it. I’m looking into other hotels. Literally looks like every other upgraded basic hotel now. And every woman wants to sit and do their makeup. Perhaps your family doesn’t because they don’t even know what it’s like to have the luxury to sit while they do their makeup. When you get your makeup done- you’re not standing- you’re sitting. Because that’s the luxury aspect. Relax while you get ready. Same idea. If they want to get close- the old vanity had a mirror you’d pull closer to you..just fyi. I was sad to read your review because I thought ..wow he’s well traveled how could he like it?! But now I realize maybe you meant well traveled like MGM or Hilton honors. Now your review makes sense.

All the new changes are bad choices including dogs that can stay in rooms at encore. No way would I ever stay there again. I love dogs but some dogs have fleas that get into carpet and beds. Now would i want to stay there? NO! I would stay elsewhere.

I will no longer stay at this resort. We loved Wynn’s because it was classy, now the design is absolutely awful, no vanity for the woman, serious? What a joke, who are you catering too?
Bring back Steve Wynn, and Roger Thomas and get rid of the rest of these clowns. You guy’s don’t know the difference between update and blind date.

I have not yet seen the new Wynn rooms in person but to put it kindly the photos are disappointing. My honest reaction is disgust. They have taken timeless elegance and traded it for something that looks better suited to the Gordon Gekko era. The prior rooms were serenity and luxury. Every inch of the new rooms looks busy. The new hotel art looks like a time share only they’ve made it worse by ordering larger sizes.
